Cool Cap (Ian Keierleber Final)

What was the scope of the project?
The product that I helped to create and advertise was the Cool Cap. My group and I tried to think of a common problem that could easily be solved with a new, unique invention. One struggle that we seem to face sometimes is the act of eliminating headaches without the hassle of tending an ice pack while attempting to carry out our daily tasks. As a solution to this, we developed a hat that held a series of ice packs inside of it.

What was your process?
What did you learn along the way?
In advertising the product, we primarily wanted to use humor to obtain the attention of the general public, as many humorous commercials catch the eye and the memory of their viewers. By appealing to an audience who craves comedy, we hoped to instill the ideals and statistics of our team and of our product. We also attempted to create an intriguing piece of media that explained the product. Using inspiration from other commercials we watched together, my group helped me to write a short commercial that we could easily create. This was a large part of our teamwork, as we began communicating even the most ridiculous ideas.
Most of my contribution to the project was my involvement in the video. After helping create a general storyboard with my group, I wrote a short script which we then revised to properly fit our product and goals of advertisement. We then scoured the halls for locations, and I began directing the team. This was fun and very useful, as it helped me gain more skills as a leader. We all had a blast in making the video, and I believe my direction aided the overall commercial's success.
The video was, of course, the last thing we made. We started the journey of the Cool Cap Crew with animation, brainstorming silly ideas of what might make this imaginary hat better. Sam, Peyton, and I all made prototypes of possible hats in Google Sketchup while Makenna assembled an environment to display several hats, as shown in the screenshot of the animation. I helped the three of them to pick out pre-made hats in the program, and then attempted to build my own. I created a sort of beanie, the hat that is sitting directly behind our famed fedora. Making this in SketchUp definitely added to my understanding of the vast and complex program. This small project also helped to bring my team much closer together, transforming us from strangers to close friends.
After we had established the basis of our product, we went into graphic design with plenty of ideas. We knew that our logo must be calm and accepting, and represent the ideals of both our company and our product. To do this we chose very serene shades of blue and green and put them against a white background, so that the viewer's eyes would not feel attacked by any bright or unnerving colors. The logo can be seen at the top of the coupon.
The coupon was our next objective, directly after the logo. We had a team meeting to decide who must do what. I was happily assigned the coupon, while Makenna was sent to design the website, Peyton was given the task of an advertisement, and Sam gladly built the web banner. The coupon was very fun for me to make, as I am very interested in graphic design. I had originally wanted to compose a more structured and filling design, but ultimately decided to create a coupon similar to the logo.

What would you do differently next time? Why?
I don't think I would really do much differently if asked to do this again, as I believe my team and I worked monumentally well together and created the best product possible.

What would you do the same? Why?
What will you draw from this experience to enhance your next project?
I would generally do everything the same, as I am pleased with the final product. My team and I communicated ideas in a very mature and professional manner which helped us create not only a great video, website, and advertisement, but also to create a good environment to work in. I will certainly attempt to recreate this environment in the future, and always make sure each individual present has his or her voice heard.

Lego Day Teamwork

It is a known fact that teamwork is necessary for many points of business and creation. As amazing as a person may be by themselves, it is arguable that they will never be as powerful alone as with a team of people.

Everybody has a very unique set of talents and abilities that is always going to be different from their peers'. This variety can always help to approach a single project from different angles, so that it isn't completed in such a linear fashion. Teamwork will also often help to get projects finished faster with the same amount of quality, giving time to polish it.

Today we practiced some forms of teamwork by constructing Lego sets. One person would somehow guide us, them being the only person in a 4-person group who would know what the finished product should look like. That person had to either silently show the rest of the group what to do, or had to describe it. It was slightly difficult, but certainly applied the idea of teamwork, as we were all working on the Lego set to make it as quickly and as well as possible.

e9 Risk Website

Throughout this project, I learned a lot of things. It was a useful experience, and there were many things that may help me in the future. Although I had done a decent amount with the CSS options in the past, this project taught me how to alter and have a more particular setting through the code itself. This helped since I had a better understanding of how the code was actually being carried out and I was then able to know how to alter more minute pieces of the website.

I personally don't believe there was much wrong with my website. It followed all of the regulations that were set, and I think that I had a very pleasant color scheme for the situation.

One thing I might change is the position of the header and sidebar. I admit that they do seem a little awkward, but they certainly aren't as bad as some websites. I also might change exactly which colors are where, as I think they are very harmonious but may be better used in different sections.

Another thing might be the lack of a particularly customized header, as I kept it solely with its text.

Ian Keierleber DreamHouse

This is the dreamhouse I created in Google SketchUp. It is the humble home of Derrick and Stan Lee, whose beings are portrayed in this brief animation. During the process of creating this home I used methods I already knew of SketchUp, which is a relatively easy program. They are very happy in this cozy, one-story house that follows all requirements set prior to the beginning of this project.

Ian Keierleber's Rad Animation

The aim of this E-Comm project was to create a very concise story that held a meaningful plot. I began the process of this production by creating my story, which beheld a difficult challenge since I had to fit an elaborate opus into the miniscule time slot of about a minute, but the strictly made characters (created using the tools in Keynote) allowed for a decent passing of time within my magnificent epic. The actual animation itself was composed of my duplicating photos and altering them on the molecular level so that they flowed smoother than the River Styx. The heavens, at long last, bestowed upon me the power to maintain my illusion of motion with the magics of sound. Along the way, I learned that there is not much I can do to improve my fantastic and inhuman nature other than somehow creating an even smoother animation, which could physically shatter our physical universe by the creation of a virtual 'perfect circle.' In the future I will always recall the aspects of story that I gained throughout this experience. my godly practices amongst this subject are bound to improve in the future due to this favorable practice.

e-Communications Winter Final

The reason I came to Northwest was out of my desire to do things like design and make films. Looking into the e-Comm program, I realized it would be the best thing to happen to me in a while- and I was correct.

The semester began with Video, which was extremely insightful. I learned how to use the program Final Cut Pro, which will no doubt help me in the future. Within it I learned many short cuts.

The second quarter threw me and my newly acquired friends into Graphic Design. We learned many things, especially how to use the programs Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. One of the most influential projects include masking over pieces of an image in order to create an effect that made it seem like certain objects weren't even captured in the photo. I found it very fun, and will no doubt find it very useful in the future, as it allowed me to learn things like the clone tool and the magic eraser.

We also began creating a website in Adobe Dreamweaver, which I would like to pursue further.

So far, I have had the most beautiful year of my life thanks to this gracious program, and I will forever be thankful that I was given these opportunities.

Website

In e9 we worked on Adobe Dreamweaver, and we were able to make some fantastic thing. The website we were instructed to create wasn't difficult, but was very fun to work on. We were taught the basics of HTML code, including tags and bodies which will become very useful in the future. Then, in the design view of the program, we created 'css' styles which allowed us to change the appearance of the site.

B2. Tags like h1 are used to make headings
B3. Content between the body tags shows up in the webpage.
B4. H1 is the biggest
B5. The tag <strong> makes text bold
B6. <em> makes things italicized.
B7. Paragraphs are designated with the <p> tag
B8. &copy;

C1. It is displayed with Times New Roman.
C2. White and black.
C3. Bad
C4. <img...
C5.
C6. They are much more enclosed.
C7. The <a tag makes a link
C8. It created a new paragraph and a class= thing
